CAPE at the Capitol (C@C)

CAPE at the Capitol brings the face of home education to the legislature, and gives homeschool families a great, purposeful field trip.

February 2, 2012 celebrates the 16th consecutive year that homeschool families from all across New Mexico have convened in Santa Fe at the state capitol building (known as the Roundhouse), to celebrate Home Education Week in New Mexico and to meet and greet state legislators.

Join us at the State Capitol on February 2, 2012

We will spend the day getting acquainted with each other and our state legislators.
We will formally receive the Governor’s proclamation declaring Home Education Week in New Mexico, watch homeschoolers page for their legislators, make new friend and catch up with others.
Exhibits will display homeschool activities—maybe even sparking a few ideas to take back home.
CAPE will have a table on the main floor of the capitol. Please feel free to stop by throughout the day and visit or ask questions.

Schedule Overview
8:00 AM Set up tables and exhibits
8:30 AM Registration
9:00 AM Orientation
10:00 AM Presentation of Proclamation
11:00 AM Group Photo
The rest of the day is unscheduled to give families time to meet legislators, tour the Roundhouse, observe sessions and committee hearings, etc. Find time for a lunch break, too.

HOW? All you have to do is show up. Come to the west side of the Rotunda and enter the Hall of History. You will see the CAPE table among the homeschool exhibits where you will pick up your name tags and an information packet for delivery to your legislator. We’ll show you all the basics at orientation at 9:00 in Room 307. Personal contacts are key. Our legislators in Santa Fe need to see the face of home education.

WHO? All New Mexico Homeschoolers! Bring the whole family! Children of all ages are welcome. It’s a great experience for your kids. They’ll get to explore the Roundhouse while learning about New Mexico, our government, and our history. They will want to come back every year. Most importantly, legislators absolutely love to see them in their “Sunday best” and visit with them.

How will we get there?

Many families and support groups from the Albuquerque/Belen area may even want to take the Rail Runner for an exciting field trip. What a great reason to “ride the rails”! For more information on the Rail Runner visit www.nmrailrunner.com.

If you drive, the parking situation has improved since last year. There is a new FREE three story parking facility directly across Don Gaspar from the West Entrance to the Roundhouse.
