How the COVID-19 Pandemic is affecting CAPE-NM events.
After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, the CAPE-NM Board has come to the decision to cancel the 2020 CAPE-NM Graduation Recognition Ceremony. We know that this ceremony is the final note on many years of work and sacrifice for parents and graduates alike, and for that reason alone, this was a very difficult decision to make. Even though we are seeing restrictions lifted across the state, we are still unsure when gatherings of greater than 100 will be allowed in New Mexico. We could proceed with the new date of July 18, 2020, and still find ourselves a week from the new date with these restrictions still in place.
As an alternative, we would like to extend a special invitation to all of our 2020 Graduates to participate in the 2021 CAPE-NM Graduation Recognition Ceremony. We realize this will not be quit the same, but we hope that it will still give an opportunity for each family to celebrate their many years of hard work and honor their 2020 graduate with friends and families.
All refunds of graduation expenses will be processed on, or before, June 30th. We also know many of you would still like to order diplomas, caps, and gowns. CAPE-NM purchases these items each year from HSLDA. You can visit their store to make your own purchases. Please note that we order the dark navy gowns, navy/gold tassel, and navy diplomas with Psalm 119:105 seal. Since you will be ordering individually, you can also opt to have your diploma personalized with the graduate’s name rather than handwriting it in after arrival. To order, please visit HSLDA’s website. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email Vikki Wingerd at firstname.lastname@example.org or the CAPE Board at email@example.com.Registration Closed

To give you a better understanding of why we conduct the ceremony as we do we have included the following CAPE-NM Graduation Recognition Ceremony Statement of Purpose. Our purpose is to make a public statement that home educators can and should stay the course and finish the race.
This ceremony is intended to inspire and encourage homeschool families, their extended family, and friends. CAPE-NM does not endorse any one educational program nor provide validation of individual success. Rather, CAPE-NM provides the opportunity to present hope and promise to the community of Christian home educators. It is our intention to let our light so shine before men that they might see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:18).
Because the concept of ceremony suggests a protocol or standard to be followed, requirements and guidelines for participation have been established. Please review them carefully. These have been established only after much prayer and deliberation. They are in no way intended as a means of “judging by appearance,” but rather are an effort to make sure appearance does not distract from what has been accomplished academically. We have attempted to make the standards as inclusive as possible. However, should you find yourself unable or unwilling to comply with the standards, we respect your decision not to participate and we want to take this opportunity to congratulate your graduate and encourage you to find an alternate way to celebrate your family’s achievement.
May this year’s celebration be a memorable one for you and your graduate. In His Service,
The Board of Directors – CAPE-NMRegistration Closed
