Military Prayer

  • SHAUN HURD, son of Andrew and Victoria Hurd, is on his second tour of duty in Iraq and not scheduled to return home until February 2009. Shaun just wrote and asked for prayer. "If there was ever a time for prayer," he said, "it is NOW." From Victoria, "God has blessed us in so many ways while he has been over there, reassuring me that Shaun is in His hands. Thank you so much for your care. We will see you at the convention!!"

  • New Mexico home schooled son, Ben Rosecrans, wounded in Iraq, now stateside, healing from injuries but has advanced chronic kidney failure.  Ben has one round of chemotherapy left, and then will be a candidate for a preemptive kidney transplant.  Please keep praying for Ben and his family.

    • New Mexico home school dad, Lt Col Jim Lasché, stationed in Iraq, returned home in April.  Jim is doing great.

    • Home school dad Wesley Mitchell, stationed in Iraq.   UPDATE:  Hallelujah and Hooray!  Wesley Mitchell is home, safe and sound with his family!  Praise the Lord!!!

  • "Greater Love"

Marine Lance Cpl. Shane P. Harris, 23, was killed Sunday, September 3,2006 during combat operations in Iraq's Al Anbar province. He was a home school graduate from Las Vegas, NM.

Shane was a committed Christian with a strong work ethic and sense of patriotic duty. "He was a great man," says his father, Pat. "He told his mama, if I don't stand between, if I don't go over there and stand over there, they are going to be over here, and your grandbabies are not going to have the life I had." His free time was spent witnessing to his fellow soldiers as well as local Iraqi families, often playing soccer with their children in 120° heat.

Pat Harris, his wife Carol, and their four children-Logan, Shane, Ryan, and Tiffany, moved to New Mexico in 1993 and home educated their family until their youngest graduated in 2005. As "grad-parents," they and their family continue to serve the local support group, Christian Home Educators Family Fellowship.

Right after September 11, 2001, a home school dad contacted the CAPE board, and asked us to consider the number of home schooled sons turning 18 and registering with Selective Service. This page is our prayerful response to that request.

We have been advised to be very cautious when posting information about these brave men and women and their families. If you would like to have a name added, please send the information to our Webmaster. Thank you.
